Global sports master

Introduction

Sport can be seen as an instrument or catalyst for societal transformations, but local, regional, national and international sport organizations are often not prepared for an additional role in society that aims at co-creating value for societal transformation. Also, the integrity and legitimacy of sport and its organizations – especially related to their public value – are increasingly challenged by recent scandals.

After countless meetings and discussions, The University of Johannesburg, South Africa, University of Tsukuba, Japan and Utrecht University, the Netherlands have decided to set up a highly qualified Global Master’s Programme that prepares administrators and managers for ‘new sport management and governance’ that matches with societal issues and current standards of good governance and organisational integrity.

The first batch the Programme started with a one-month visit to Utrecht University, the Netherlands in February 2018. Followed by a month trip to University of Tsukuba, Japan in July 2018, finalized by the last month trip to University of Johannesburg, South Africa in February 2019. Eleven South African, Japanese and Dutch students were selected to take part for the first batch and now currently on their way to the world to implement what they have learned and gained through this Programme!
